The Mystical Marriage of St. Catherine

Church of St. Catherine
Mazzorbo Island in the Venetian Lagoon

It's hard to see, but the ring is in the child's right hand. As in most Mystical Marriage images the ring will go on St. Catherine's right hand, not her left. The figure at her right shoulder holds the hand steady. Perhaps he and the one on her left are angels? Children of the donor?

As in many images Catherine wears a crown. Also traditional is Mary's blue mantle over a red robe. The baby's nakedness was characteristic of 15th-century Madonna and Child paintings and may possibly indicate the date of this work.
